We’re sure if you look it up in Google, you won’t find it. In the absence of an alternative defining source, let us give it a try. In our view, a person who is “experienceless” refers to someone who lacks real experiences at an unfamiliar destination. ExperienceLess describes those of us who, despite not knowing a place, are dying to live memorable experiences there.

ExperienceLess is a movement. A movement whose goal is to call attention to that “impoverished” feeling one gets while merely visiting or just passing through a country, city or town. But, that’s not the only thing. We also think it’s essential to highlight how different a place can be when we enjoy the company or advice of a native or someone who lives or has lived there.

No doubt about it. The difference between visiting a city and living it is HUUUUUUUUUUUGE!!! Visiting a city is about staring agog at some conventional monument or the latest architectural whim, other times it has to do with hitting that trendy bistro where the house specialty is more art than gastronomy. In other words, visiting a place is like exploring the tip of an iceberg. Living it is exploring the iceberg itself.

Living a destination is interactive. It’s about participating, “getting wet” and soaking up those things that locals are privy to and tourists are not. It has to do with experiencing those people, placeS and things that are usually hidden to the typical traveler. Said another way, when we live a destination, we experience more than just a pretty face. We go deeper and delve into the heart and soul of things.

On June 4^th 2009, four friends who go by the names of Mikel, Xabier, Jokin and Imanol, will embark on an eight-city European tour to check out the heart and soul of mega-known “tourist traps”. Drawing their inspiration from the world’s homeless, who sit endless hours waiting with commendable dignity, they will bear signs that read:

“HELP!!! I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOUR MUSEUMS AND I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOUR STATUES. AND, ABOVE ALL, I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOUR CITY. I  WANT TO LIVE IT.”
